Manner of Resting

Imām Shuʿbah was a humble individual who believed it was not appropriate for a devout follower of Allah(ﷻ) to sleep on a bed while fully stretching out. For a period of forty years (fifty, according to some sources), he devoted most of his nights to worship and rested by sitting against a wall or pillar. This became a habit for him over the course of decades. In fact, one corner of his home was noticeably darkened due to his constant leaning against it while reciting Quran.
