1. Surah Ar- Rum :54-

It is Allah Who created you in a state of weakness, then developed ˹your˺ weakness into strength, then developed ˹your˺ strength into weakness and old age.1 He creates whatever He wills. For He is the All-Knowing, Most Capable.

The word ضَعْفٍۢ (meaning: weakness) occurs five times

(multiple times with different harakah having same root words) in the Qur’an

Recitation Challenge: To be aware of two ways of reciting this word ضَعْفٍۢ in this verse only.

Tajweed Tip: In the way of Hafs an Aasim recitation, this word can be recited either with fatha or with dhammah on ض. Preferred way is to recite with fatha (as seen in the mushaf) In other qi’raah this word can be read with any one vowel.

Note: The same ضَعْفٍۢ word occurs 3 times in this verse, If the first word is recited with fatha then the next two should be recited with fatha only or all three words with dhammah. Muqaddam is with fatha.

[Having same root words it has occured multiple times with different harakah ]

2. Surah Luqman:19:

Be moderate in your pace. And lower your voice, for the ugliest of all voices is certainly the braying of donkeys.”

The word وَٱغْضُضْ (Meaning: and lower) occurs once in the Qur’an

Recitation Challenge: Reciting the Letter ض with its due rights.

Tajweed Tip: 1. Maintain the heaviness and rakhawa of the letter غ. 2. Circle lips fully for letter ض with dhammah with its heaviness. 3. return to normal position of lip and tongue before the next ض.

Note: As this letter has special sifaat istitaala were the tip of the tongue slides forward, if we fail to bring the lip back to normal position from the circled shape then the tongue might slide backward for the next ض with sakin. We should take care of this movement to avoid the sakin sound coming from the dhammah sound of the previous ض.

It is important to practice with a teacher for correct recitation.
