Imām Ḥamzah allowed students to recite to him on a ‘first come first recite’ basis. He did not change the order even if famous or rich people of society came to recite to him. Wealth and money could not buy anyone a place in his circle of learning.

7 Incident about the ditch

It is related that once Imām Ḥamzah fell in a ditch in Kufa. All the people of Kufa came to help him out. Imam Ḥamzah asked every person that came: “Have you read to me?” If they had, he would refuse their assistance, until none in Kufa remained who could help him out. Eventually, Allah (ﷻ), sent a lioness to help Imām Ḥamzah out of the ditch.
