Equality and adherence to purity

The students of Imām Nāfi came from diverse social and economic backgrounds, some were rich, some were poor, some were influential and some were ordinary people but he treated all of them equally. He gave an equal opportunity for recitation to all and never hesitated to correct the mistakes of all students.

He wanted to establish this type of equality in seeking and imparting sacred knowledge.

Imām Nāfi was particular, that he, himself, and all his students recited the holy Qur’an in the state of Taharah only (state of purity).

A sahih hadith narrated from ‘Amr ibn Hazm (may Allah be pleased with him), stating that the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), wrote to the people of Yemen: “No one should touch the Quran except one who is tahir (pure).
